- The son of former Bluejay Eddie Ortega (1983-86),
- Nick appeared in 18 games as a freshman.
- Often used in late game situations, Nick was 1-for-5 as a pinch hitter, collecting his first hit against Utah Valley on March 19.
2012-16 (Jesuit High School)
- A three-year letterwinner for the Tigers, Ortega earned his team’s gold glove as a senior.
- Nick hit .311 in 82 games over his three seasons with Jesuit. As a senior he hit at a .326 clip in 30 contests.
- Ortega collected 28 hits and scored 26 runs as a senior. His 15 RBI helped the Tigers to a 24-6 mark, including an undefeated record (10-0) in district play (6A-8).
