Softball Tops Eastern Illinois 6-0 For Tripleheader Sweep

CONWAY, Ark. - A 6-0 Creighton softball victory over Eastern Illinois capped a tripleheader sweep on opening day for the Bluejays at the Central Arkansas Spring Clash. Laura Fonda and Tara Oltman again combined for a shutout, with Fonda hurling the first three innings and Oltman tossing the final four to pick up her second win of the day. The win places the Jays as the No. 1 seed for Sunday's games, where they will face off with Alabama A&M at noon. Should the Jays win they will play in the championship game at 4 p.m. against the winner of the UCA-Eastern Illinois contest. The loser will play the 10 a.m. game's loser at 2 p.m.
The Bluejays scored two runs in the third, three in the fourth and concluded scoring with a single tally in the fifth inning to drop EIU to 2-1 on the year.
Bailey Dawson homered for the second time on the day and went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. TJ Eadus hit her third round-tripper of the day, going 1-for-2 with two RBI in the contest. Freshmen Jess Stigge and Michelle Koch each added two hits, while senior Jamie Reiss also went 2-for-4 with a run scored and RBI.

The Jays banged out 12 hits in the game to push their three-game hit total to 39, while they finished the day with 31 runs scored. CU is off to its first 3-0 start since the 2000 campaign.
