TULSA, Okla. The Creighton softball team kept its perfect start alive by defeating Missouri State, 4-1, in a non-conference game at the Holiday Inn Select Tulsa Festival Friday afternoon. The Bluejays are now 6-0 for the first time since opening the 1987 season with 10 straight victories.
Freshman Michelle Graner walked with one out in the second inning and was then sacrificed to second base with two outs. Senior Jessica German then stepped in and ripped her second home run of the season to put the Bluejays up 2-0.
The Bluejays added to their lead in the fifth inning with another pair of two-out runs. Rookie Michelle Koch reached on a one-out walk and she was moved to second base on a bunt hit by Jessica Wakasugi. After Jamie Reiss grounded out to second to move the runners up a base, Bailey Dawson smacked a single through the right side of the infield to plate both Koch and Wakasugi.
Freshman Tara Oltman improved to 4-0 with the complete-game victory. Her streak of 14.1 straight innings to open her career without an earned run came to an end, but she allowed just the solo home run and struck out six in the victory.
CU finished with six hits, with Wakasugi the only Bluejay with multiple base knocks.
