
Men's Golf Takes 11th in Final Tune-Up Before BIG EAST Championships

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. -- The Creighton men's golf team placed 11th in its final competition before the BIG EAST Championships on Tuesday. The Bluejays finished with a two-round 623 (314+309) at the ORU Shootout at the Forest Ridge Golf Course in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
The tournament was shortened to 36 holes after rain forced a late start to the first round of action on Monday.
Northern Iowa earned the team championship with a 600. Three players on UNI's roster improved their scores by at least 10 strokes during the second round on Tuesday to help the Panthers total a 284, following a 316 performance in the first round on the par-72 course that measured 6,826 yards.
UNI's fellow Missouri Valley Conference rival Missouri State placed second (314+289=603) and host Oral Roberts finished third with a 612 (316+296).
Midland CC's David Wicks claimed the individual medal with a final score of 144 (72+72). Joey Johnson (Missouri State) and Karl Krieser (Omaha) tied for second.
Creighton sophomore Andrew Holloway tied for 15th with a 152 (78+74) to lead the Jays to their 11th place finish. Freshman Charlie Bolton shot a 154 (78+76) and tied for 18th.
Senior Johnny Spellerberg tied for 33rd after a 157 two-day total (79+78), while freshman Trey Petitt and sophomore Kade Brown rounded out the team scoring for the Jays. Pettit tied for 57th with a 161 (79+82) and Brown stroked an pair of 81's (162 total) in each round to tie for 60th.
The Bluejays compete in the BIG EAST Championships at Callawassie Island Golf Course in Callawassie Island, South Carolina April 26-28.
