Baseball Rallies for 5-4 Win Over Stony Brook

Omaha, Neb. -- Down 4-0 after three innings, the Creighton Baseball team delivered five unanswered runs to claim a 5-4 win over Stony Brook on Friday, March 25.
With the win the Bluejays moved to 14-4 on the season, while Stony Brook fell to 8-10.
Trailing 4-0 the Bluejays' offense got on the board in the bottom of the fourth on two singles, a sac fly and an error. Senior Brett Murray set the table in the frame with a one-out single to left-center. Senior Harrison Crawford reached on an error to put runners on first and second, then a wild pitch sent Murray to third. Senior Matt Gandy lifted a sacrifice fly to left-center to give Creighton its first run.
The Bluejays continued to claw back into the game with a runs in the sixth as Crawford beat out an infield single and took second on an errant throw. Gandy followed with a single through the right side to make it 4-2.
Creighton saved its big inning for the eighth, scoring three runs on two singles, two errors and a passed ball. Junior Nicky Lopez reached on an error to open the inning, taking second on the throw. Bluejay cleanup hitter Reagan Fowler reached first after striking out on a passed ball, also sending Lopez to third. A perfectly placed infield single over the third baseman from Murray made it 4-3, then pinch hitter Bryce Only reached on the second error of the inning to load the bases.
Pinch hitter Riley Landuyt grounded into a double-play as Fowler scored the tying run, then junior Kevin Connolly singled through the left side to plate Murray with the game-winning run.
Stony Brook also got capitalized on a couple of Bluejay miscues to build its 4-0 lead as two walks, an error and a wild pitch helped the Seawolves plate four in the third.
Creighton starter Rollie Lacy limited the damage to the third frame, holding Stony Brook to four runs on four hits over six innings. Lacy gave way to senior Nick Highberger, who threw a scoreless seventh. Senior John Oltman snagged his first career win (1-0) with a flawless eighth and senior David Gerber set the Seawolves down in order in the ninth for his sixth save of the season.
Offensively Murray led the Bluejays with three hits, two runs scored and an RBI, while Connolly was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Gandy finished the day 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Creighton and Stony Brook will continue the three-game series on Saturday, March 26 at 2:00 pm.
