Lacy is First Bluejay to top Century Mark
Staff ace Rollie Lacy became Creighton's first pitcher of the 2016 to toss 100 or more pitches in a game on Friday, April 15 in the Bluejays' 2-1 win.
Lacy tossed 102 pitches in eight innings to post his BIG EAST leading sixth victory of the season.
The last time a Creighton pitcher topped the century mark was Keith Rogalla in the BIG EAST Tournament last season, May 23, in Creighton's 12-1 win over Seton Hall.
Bluejays Enjoy Walking Away
Creighton waited until the last at-bat to send the Bluejay crowd home happy during three times during the last five victories.
Trailing 3-1 entering the bottom of the ninth against Butler on Sunday, April 17, the Bluejays got two in the ninth and one in the tenth to sweep the Bulldogs. Creighton also posted walkoff wins in each of its midweek games. First, senior outfielder Brett Murray delivered a one-out single
to right field on Tuesday night against Nebraska on Tuesday to give the Bluejays a 4-3 win, their first victory against the Huskers since 2013.
Fellow senior Harrison Crawford propelled Creighton to its second consecutive walkoff victory with an RBI-single up the middle in the bottom of the 11th inning to drive in Reagan Fowler on Wednesday night against South Dakota State. The Bluejays trailed 5-4 entering the home half of the 11th before
scoring two runs via a sacrifice fly and base hit.
The last time Creighton posted two consecutive walk-off victories was May 3 and 4, 2014 against Seton Hall. The Bluejays defeated the Pirates 4-3 in 10 innings on a single by Brad McKewon on May 3 and 8-7 on a throwing error during the bottom of the 10th inning on May 4.
On the Road Again
For the first time since March 9, Creighton will leave the state of Nebraska as the Bluejays head to Arkansas to battle the Razorbacks on Tuesday, April 19.
As the Bluejays do most seasons, Creighton opened the year with 11 consecutive road games. Creighton finished that stretch with a 6-4 mark as the contest at Kansas was washed away on March 8.
The schedule turned as the Bluejays played 23 consecutive games in the state of Nebraska. The lone road game during this stretch was in Lincoln against the Huskers on March 29.
Creighton went 19-3, including 19-2 at home, during the stretch. The Bluejays had one game washed away (Kansas on March 22).
The Servais Way Begins in the Pen
Head coach Ed Servais has long been known for focus on defense and the bullpen. The 2016 Bluejays are proving off to a strong start in the pen. A combined 12 arms have seen action for the Bluejays.
The group have thrown a combined 130.2 innings, holding the opposition to just 23 earned runs. The resulting is 1.58 ERA.
The starters haven't been too shabby themselves, with a 2.78 ERA over 152.1 innings (47 earned runs).
