Creighton Baseball Travels to Villanova to Resume BIG EAST Action

Omaha, Neb. -- The Creighton baseball team will play a three-game series at Villanova and resume BIG EAST action this weekend after spending last Friday and Saturday in Utah for a nonconference battle with BYU. The Bluejays and Wildcats will open their series on Friday, April 29 at 1:15 pm.

Creighton vs. Villanova Series Bluejays lead, 6-1-0
The Bluejays and Wildcats met once prior to facing off as BIG EAST opponents in 2014, that coming in 1984 as the Bluejays posted a 5-4 win on March 10 in a game played in Miami, Florida.
The BIG EAST games began at Villanova two years ago as the Wildcats claimed the first conference contest between the two squads (6-3 on April 17, 2014). Since that meeting the Bluejays have take the last five battles, including a series sweep of the Wildcats in the final regualr-season series.
Scouting the Wildcats (2016: 15-25, 3-6 BIG EAST)
After missing the BIG EAST Tournament due to a sweep by Creighton in the final regular-season series of 2015, Villanova may have a little extra emotion for this series with the Bluejays.
The Wildcats enter the weekend having dropped six of their last seven, including a difficult sweep by Seton Hall last weekend. Two of the losses to the Pirates came in extra-innings, 4-3 (11) on Friday and 7-6 (10) on Sunday.
Villanova enters the weekend with a team batting average of .241, led by Todd Czinege's .325. The second highest hitter is Adam Goss at .260.
On the mound the Wildcats boast one of the top starters in the BIG EAST in ace Hunter Schryver. He brings the third best ERA among starters at 2.38 into Friday's matchup. As a team the Wildcats have a 4.36 ERA.
Gerber Named to NCBWA Midseason Stopper of the Year Watch List
Junior David Gerber was one of 40 players named to the NCBWA Midseason Stopper of the Year Watch List on Thursday.
Gerber is tied for the BIG EAST lead with eight saves and holds a 2-1 record and 0.82 ERA during 22 appearances. He owns 20 strikeouts and has walked eight in 22.0 innings pitched.
The NCBWA will announce five finalists for the 2016 Stopper of the Year on Wednesday, June 8, prior to the start of NCAA Super Regional competition.
Creighton One of just Eight Teams With Less than 10 Losses
At 27-9 the Bluejays are one of just eight teams in the NCAA with less then 10 losses this season. Florida leads the race with just six defeats.
