Lacy Picks Up Eighth Win As Baseball Wins Sixth Straight

Creighton takes series opener over Georgetown, 6-2
Creighton improved to 9-1 in BIG EAST play and 31-9 overall, its best start after 40 games since the 1983 team also started 31-9. Georgetown dropped to 23-25 and is 6-7 in league play.
As he has done many times this season, junior Daniel Woodrow got the Bluejays off to a fast start in the first inning. Woodrow opened the bottom of the first with a single to center, stole second and moved to third via a sacrifice bunt from junior Nicky Lopez. Senior Ryan Fitzgerald followed with an RBI double down the right field line to make it 1-0.
Georgetown briefly took the lead with two runs in the top of the fourth, scoring two on a triple, a walk and a single.
Creighton answered with a run in the fourth as Matt Gandy opened the frame with a single through the right side, then senior Brett Murray yanked a double down the right field line to knot the game at 2-2.
The Bluejays seized the lead in the bottom of the sixth as senior Reagan Fowler pulled a double into the gap in right-center and came in to score after a sacrifice bunt from Gandy and a sac fly by Murray.
Creighton put the game away with three runs in the seventh, getting an RBI double from freshman Michael Emodi, an RBI single from Gandy and scoring one run on a wild pitch.
Sophomore Rollie Lacy (8-2) won his league-leading eighth game of the season, three more than anyone else in the BIG EAST, allowing just two runs in six innings of work. Lacy scattered four hits around a career-high five walks in the outing. Seniors Connor Miller, John Oltman and junior David Gerber followed with scoreless innings out of the Bluejay bullpen to hold down the victory.
The Hoyas and Bluejays will continue their series on Saturday night at 7 pm. The game will honor both the Military as well as First Responders, with fireworks to follow.
