Creighton vs. Nebraska Series
Huskers lead, 90-43-2
Less than an hour apart, Creighton and Nebraska are familiar foes on the baseball field.
Nebraska holds an 90-43-2 series edge on Creighton.
When playing in Omaha the Huskers hold a 51-16-1 edge over the Bluejays. Whilein Lincoln Nebraska's edge is 39-27-1, Head coach Ed Servais is 12-27 versus Nebraska in his career, including a 8-16 mark in Omaha.
Creighton went 1-2 against the Huskers last season, defeating Nebraska 4-3 in walk-off fashion on April 12 at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.
The Huskers, however, downed the Bluejays 14-6 in the first meeting of the season on April 4 in Lincoln. (See full series history on Page 27).
Scouting Nebraska (21-13-1, 5-3-1 Big Ten)
The Huskers went 2-2 last weekend, dropping their weekend series with Iowa. Nebraska salvaged the finale with the Hawkeyes on Sunday, 8-6.
Nebraska has made a habit of exploding offensively during its midweek games, scoring 14 against the Bluejays two weeks ago and 11 against
Kansas State on March 28. In seven midweek (Tuesday or Wednesday) contests the Huskers are averaging 8.57 runs per game. Throughout the regular season Nebraska is averaging 5.23 per game (183 runs in 35 games).
The Huskers hit .271 as a team, led by Luis Alvarado (.319), Scott Schriber (.316) and Angelo Altavilla (.306). On the bump Nebraska has a 3.37 team ERA, including a 3.89 mark by Tuesday's starter Matt Waldron.
Creighton Riding a Six-Game Win Streak
The Bluejays are beginning to play their best baseball as BIG EAST play has kicked in, Creighton enters the contest with Nebraska riding a season-high six game winning streak. Creighton collected two victories last week in its last at-bat, walking off against South Dakota State last Tuesday and rallying to grab the finale at Georgetown.
Emodi Felt Right at Home against Hoyas
Spending the 2016 summer playing for the Big Train team at Shirley Povich Field paid dividends for sophomore Michael Emodi. The Omaha native delivered home runs in consecutive at-bats during the Bluejays' 6-4 win over Georgetown on Friday, April 14.
What a Comeback, Down 9-3 with Four Outs Left Bluejays Best Hoyas 11-9 to Earn Sweep
Trailing 9-3 with two down in the top of the eighth at Georgetown on Saturday, April 15 many the Bluejays mounted an improbable rally to claim the sweep of the Hoyas. Freshman Will Robertson kicked things off with a solo home run to right in the eighth, then senior Riley
Landuyt doubled down the left field line. Senior Bryce Only followed with an RBI single to right, but was cut down trying to stretch it to a double to end the eighth.
Down 9-5 at the onset of the final frame, freshmen Parker Upton and Jason Allbery stroked singles through the left side, then sophomore Clark Brinkman drew a four pitch walk to load the bags. After freshman Issac Collins pulled a single through the right side, sophomore Thomas Luevano worked a full-count walk to make it 9-7 and send the Hoyas to the bullpen.
The rally continued as sophomore Michael Emodi was hit by a pitch to make it a one-run affair, then one out later Landuyt tied the game with a single to left. The final blow came from Only as he ripped a two-run single to left.
