Men's Golf Opens Fall Season in Fifth Place at Crusader Collegiate

Brad Keyer ties for fifth place

CHESTERTON, Ind. -- The Creighton men's golf team tied for fifth place on Tuesday at the Crusader Collegiate, which opened the 2018-19 season for the Bluejays.
Brad Keyer started his senior season with a tie for fifth-place, the best finish by a Bluejay in any meet since Kade Brown opened the 2016-17 campaign with a tie for second place at the UNO Invitational. Keyer followed up an opening-round 73 with consecutive 72s for a 217 total.
Nate Vontz completed circuits of 73, 75 and 77 for a 225 total, one shot better than senior Koy Potthoff (80-71-75) and freshman Tucker Knaak (78-77-71).
Rounding out the CU line-up was Ben Krapfl, who debuted with 82, 80 and 77 for a 239 total to tie for 60th place.
Competing as an individual for CU was Andrew McCormick, who tied for 58th place with rounds of 78, 81 and 78.
Bradley won the 13-team meet with rounds of 287, 290 and 290 to earn a six-shot win over Wright State, which shot a collective score of 873. Bradley's Dan Lensing took home first place with a 5-under score of 211, topping Loyola (Chicago) looper Devin Johnson. There were 74 competitors that tried to tame the Sand Creek Country Club course, which measured 6,979 yards and played to a par of 72.
Creighton returns to the course on Sept. 24-25 at the Derek Dolenc Invitational in Madison, Ill.
