Six Run Ninth Vaults Baseball to 11-7 Win Over McNeese State

The win moved the Bluejays to 5-1 on the season, while McNeese State fell to 3-3. In the the Lake Area Classic, Creighton closes the Lake Area Classic at 2-1, Creighton's scheduled game with McNeese State on Sunday was canceled due to the late finish tonight. The Cowboys are 0-2 in the tournament with a scheduled contest against Texas State tomorrow.
Trailing 7-5 entering the ninth junior Jason Allbery and sophomore Garrett Gilbert got things going with back-to-back walks. One out later juniors Isaac Collins and Parker Upton were hit by pitches to make it a 7-6 contest. Junior Will Robertson gave Creighton an 8-7 lead with an two run single up the middle, then Holton launched the a three-run home run to left center to put the game away.
The offensive star of the game was junior Jake Holton, who smashed two home runs including a three-run blast in the ninth to salt the game away.
Creighton got on the board first in the opening frame as junior Isaac Collins launched a solo home run to right center. The Bluejays added two runs in the third on RBI singles from Upton and Holton.
McNeese State countered with four runs in the third to take a 4-3 edge. The Cowboys added a run in the fifth, but Holton closed the gap with a solo hom run in the sixth, then senior Jack Strunc doubled and scored on a sac fly from senior Jordan Hovey to knot the game at 5-5.
Senior Bobby Kametas picked up the win (1-0) for Creighton with five outs of scoreless ball, while Hunter Reeves took the loss (0-1) allowing five runs on three hits in one inning of work.
With Sunday's game against the Cowboys canceled, the Bluejays return to the diamond on Friday, March 1 as Creighton begins a three-game seriesAwith Wichita State at 3:00 pm in Wichita.
