Bluejay Bats Ignite in 14-2 Win at Loyola Marymount

Los Angeles, Calif. -- Scoring in seven of the nine frame, the Creighton Baseball team defeated Loyola Marymount 14-2 in the series opener with the Lions on Friday, February 25.
The victory moved Creighton to 1-4 on the season, while LMU fell to 0-4-1.
Down 1-0 entering the second, junior Sterling Hayes reached on a bloop double into short right field and freshman Nolan Sailors laced an RBI single up the middle to knot the contest at 1-1.
Still tied at 1-1 in the third, the Bluejays seized control in their second time through the order. Leadoff man Andrew Meggs laced a double to left center to open the inning. After taking third on a failed pickoff, sophomore Kyle Hess gave Creighton the lead with an RBI infield single. Later in the inning freshman Brant Voth drove an RBI single to left, plating Hess. The Bluejays added two more runs in the frame on a wild pitch and an RBI single from senior Chris Esposito to make it 5-1.
The Bluejays added single runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh, highlighted by an RBI double in the fourth by sophomore Alan Roden and a solo home run from Voth in the seventh. Creighton tacked on three runs in both the eighth and ninth frames to coast to the victory.
Voth led Creighton's 17-hit offense with four hits and four RBI, Roden, Hess and junior Sterling Hayes each closed the game with a pair of hits. Roden reached base in five of his six plate appearances, closing the game 2-for-2 with two doubes, two walks, an HBP and a sac fly.
Creighton starter Dylan Tebrake deserved a win, but settled for a no decision. Tebrake allowed two runs in 4.1 innings, while junior Paul Bergstrom was equally impressive with 3.1 innings of scoreless relief to move to 1-0 on the season.
Loyola Marymount starter Jimmy Galicia took the loss (0-1), allowing seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits and two walks in 5.1 innings.
Creighton and Loyola Marymount continue the three-game series on Saturday, February 26 at 800 pm (CT).
