Wegner And Tebrake Power Bluejays To 6-1 Win Over Wichita State

Creighton has won six straight games over the Shockers
WICHITA, Kan. -- The Creighton baseball team extended their win streak to six as juniors Dylan Tebrake and Jared Wegner powered the Bluejays to a 6-1 win over Wichita State on Friday night at Eck Stadium.Â
The Bluejays improved to 10-6 on the year with their sixth straight win over Wichita State, while the Shockers fall to 10-11 overall.Â
Creighton wasted no time taking the early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Alan Roden walked with one out, advanced to third on Jared Wegner's double to the right field wall and came around to score on Chris Esposito's sacrifice fly to left.
Junior Dylan Tebrake retired the first seven Shockers before Seth Stroh connected for a solo home run to knot things up at 1-1 in the bottom of the third.
Both teams went scoreless through the next two innings before Bluejays tacked on two runs in the top of the sixth inning. Wegner and Esposito drew back-to-back walks to open the frame, before Wegner advanced to third on a fly out by Brent Voth. Freshman Nolan Sailors drove Wegner across with an RBI single, giving the Bluejays a 2-1 lead. The Bluejays didn't stop there as Sailors came around to score on a bunt single from sophomore Kyle Hess and a throwing error by the Shockers Jace Kaminska.
Creighton's bats continued to stay hot as Nolan Clifford led off the seventh with a double to right field. Andrew Meggs was then hit by a pitch before Roden and Wegner each reached on fielder's choices. The Bluejays then tacked on an addition run as Esposito reached on the Shockers second error in as many innings, which allowed Clifford to cross the plate to give Creighton a 4-1 advantage.Â
Creighton sealed the deal with a pair of runs in the top of the nine. Roden got things started with a leadoff double into the right center gap before Wegner launched his second home run of the season over the left field wall to secure a 6-1 win for the Bluejays.
Wegner lead the way for the Bluejays with a pair of hits, including a double and a home run. Roden also recorded a two hits and scored two runs, while four other Bluejays added a hit. Creighton racked up eight hits with four coming via doubles. Tebrake earned his third win of the season after striking out six and allowing just one run on four hits in 6.0 innings of work.Â
The Bluejays and Shockers are scheduled to resume their series on Saturday at 2 p.m. in a game that will air on ESPN+.
