Bottom Third of Bluejay Lineup Leads Baseball to 7-2 Win Over St. Thomas

Omaha, Neb. -- The bottom third of Creighton's order (Hogan Helligso, Ben Gbur and Kyle Hess) combined to go 6-for-10 with five RBI to help the Bluejays sweep St. Thomas with a 7-2 win on Sunday, April 2.
Creighton closed the weekend 12-9 on the season, while the Tommies fell to 2-16.
Trailing 1-0 entering the bottom of the second, the trio of Helligso, Gbur and Hess delivered consecutive singles to knot the game at 1-1.
The Bluejays surged ahead with three runs in the second on an RBI single from grad transfer Tyler Lozano, an RBI walk to Helligso and an RBI groundout by Gbur.
Leading 4-1 as the game moved to the sixth, Helligso blasted an RBI triple down the right field line and Gbur followed on the next pitch with a bloop single to right to make it 6-1.
Each team scratched the scoreboard in the eighth, highlighted by a solo home run from sophomore Nolan Sailors.
Bluejay starter Anthony Watts earned the win (2-2), allowing one run on on five hits in five innings, while St. Thomas starter Duke Coborn took the loss (0-2) allowing four runs on five hits in three innings.
Helligso finished with game 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI, while Gbur delivered his first two-hit game as a Bluejay going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Creighton is back in action on Tuesday, April 4 in a crosstown battle with Omaha at Tal Anderson Field with a first pitch set for 5:30 p.m.
