Women’s Tennis Overpowers Northern Iowa in 6-1 Victory

OMAHA, Neb. – Early success in doubles and singles guided the Creighton women's tennis team to a 6-1 victory over Northern Iowa on Saturday at the Hanscom Tennis Center.
The win lifted the Bluejays record to 2-2 on the season, while the Panthers fell to 0-2 overall.
Creighton dominated throughout doubles play, clinching the first point of the afternoon with victories at all three doubles positions.
Malvika Shukla and Bianca Rademacher earned a quick 6-2 victory at the No. 1 doubles slot, while Valerie Negin and Ana Paula Martinez clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win at the No. 2 doubles spot. Siri Kongara and Annika Elvestrom also picked up a 6-3 triumph on the No. 3 doubles court.
The Bluejays continued their winning ways into singles play, clinching the overall match with straight-set victories at five of the six singles spots.
Rademacher put away her opponent quickly, posting a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 3 singles position. Moments later, Kongara claimed an identical 6-1, 6-0 straight-sets victory at the No. 6 spot to give Creighton a 3-0 advantage in the match.
Martinez then clinched the victory for the Bluejays with a 6-0, 6-3 triumph at the No. 4 singles spot. With the match already in hand, Elvestrom claimed a 6-1, 6-2 win on the No. 6 single court before Shukla improved to 4-0 on the season at the top singles position with a 6-2, 6-1 straight-sets win.
Northern Iowa's lone point came at the No. 2 singles, when Darta Dalecka picked up a 6-4, 5-7, 10-3 win over Negin.
Creighton returns to action on Friday, Feb. 9 when they battle Central Arkansas at 12:30 p.m. inside the Hanscom Tennis Center.
