All five Bluejays post at least one round of par or better
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Sophomore Grant Feldman fired a career-low 66 on Sunday to help the Creighton men's golf team earn an 11th-place finish at the Hawkeye Invitational. All five Bluejays to compete turned in at least one score of par or better in the event.
Feldman entered Sunday tied for 31st place after rounds of 71 and 72 on Saturday. He would birdie three of his first four holes on Sunday and finish the final round with eight birdies while shooting the fourth-lowest round by a Bluejay in the past 20 seasons. That was good enough to propel him into a tie for ninth place, his sixth top-25 showing in a row. Feldman's weekend saw him take over the team-lead in scoring average at 71.33, a figure on pace for a CU single-season record.
Freshman Owen Price (71-70-77=218) and senior Jackson Thompson (74-75-69=218) tied for 51st after finishing with 5-over totals of 218. Thompson's closing 69 matched his best scorecard in a Bluejay uniform, as the Dakota Dunes, S.D., native also shot a 69 in February of 2022 at the Advance Golf Partners Collegiate.
Senior Charlie Zielinski tied for 57th place after loops of 73, 75 and 71 for a 219 aggregate. He now owns 39 career rounds of par or better.
Shaun Campbell finished in a tie for 66th place, following up his team-best 70 in the first round with circuits of 74 and 76 to finish with a 220 total.
Wisconsin senior Cameron Huss compiled scores of 66, 66 and 69 for a 12-under total of 201 to win the event by two shots over Nebraska's Henry Crockett. The effort by Huss helped Wisconsin (279-279-282=840) earn a five-shot victory in the team standings over Southern Illinois (289-282-274=845) and TCU (274-289-282=845). Creighton's 282 on Sunday was one stroke away from matching its best third-round score in the last 20 seasons.
Sixteen teams and 90 golfers competed in the tournament overall on the Finkbine Golf Course, which measured 7,197 yards on its Par 71 layout.
The Bluejays are back in action April 19-21 at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate in Columbus, Ohio for its penultimate event of the regular-season.
