The loss moved Creighton to 28-8 on the season and 4-4 in BIG EAST action, while Villanova moved to 13-23 overall and 4-7 in conference play.
Creighton starter Chad Saner took the loss (1-1) for the Bluejays, allowing three runs on two hits and three walks in one inning. Villanova starter Luke McCollough earned the win (4-2), limiting Creighton to six runs on five hits over 6.1 innings.
Villanova took advantage of some Bluejay wildness on the mound as the Wildcats jumped out to a 9-0 lead with three runs in the first and six in the second, getting five free base runners via the walk.
The Bluejays got on the scoreboard with RBI doubles from Will MacLean and Colby Canales in the fourth. Villanova responded with a solo home run from Josue Valdez to make it 10-2.
Creighton put another two runs on the board in the fifth as Kyle Hess laced an RBI triple to right and Nolan Sailors delivered an RBI ground out.
Down 11-4 the Bluejays loaded the bases with one down in the seventh for Sailors. Creighton's leading hitting smacked a two-run single to center, but that was the end of Creighton's comeback bid.
Sailors finished with three RBI, while Hess notched a team-best two hits.
The Bluejays and Wildcats wrap up the three game series with the rubber game on Sunday, April 21 with an 11:00 a.m. start.
