Baseball Downed by Nebraska, 8-4

Omaha, Neb. -- After falling behind 8-0 in the first five frames, Creighton Baseball plated four runs in the sixth but fell 8-4 to Nebraska on Tuesday, May 12.
The loss moved the Bluejays to 28-22, while Nebraska climbed to 38-14.
The Huskers built an early 3-0 lead with two runs in the opening frame and one in the second. With two runners on and one down in the first, Case Sanderson drove an RBI single to right, followed by an RBI double to left by Drew Grego. The second inning saw Nebraska take advantage of an attempt to double off a runner at first on a pop up to score on a foul out to first.
Nebraska pushed across five runs in the fifth on four hits. Grego started the scoring with a two-run double down the left field line, while Joshua Overbeek and Mac Moyer each delivered RBI singles.
The Bluejays made things interesting with four runs in the sixth, beginning with a three-run blast from Teddy Deters with two down. Creighton quickly loaded the bags on a single from Lew Rice followed by walks to Nick Venteicher and Chris Baillargeon. Rocco Gump followed with an RBI walk, but a deep fly out to right closed the from off the bat of Isaac Wachsmann.
Creighton starter Ian Koosman took the loss (0-4), allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits in two innings of work. Cooper Katskee picked up the win (6-2), allowing three runs on five hits in 5.2 frames.
Creighton closes out the regular season with a three-game road series at Xavier beginning on Thursday, May 14. The first game of the series will be played at Great American Ballpark, the home of the Cincinnati Reds. The game between the Bluejays and Musketeers will begin at approximately 4:00 pm (CT), with the Red game against the Washington Nationals starting at 11:40 am (CT).
