As it was in the opening game of the series, the contest was scoreless heading into the ninth inning. Senior Jessica German led off the ninth with a double and moved to third with one out on an error by MSU right fielder Brooke Kemper, which allowed Michelle Koch to reach base. After a walk to Jessica Wakasugi loaded the bases, Reiss singled in the winning run. A sacrifice fly by Caitlin Marcano provided an insurance run.
Oltman, a rookie out of Beatrice (Neb.) High, hurled her third shutout of the season all coming this week. She tossed nine innings, allowed only four hits and two walks, while striking out 10. On the week, the right-hander tossed 30.1 innings and did not allow a run, going 4-0 with just 15 hits allowed and 33 strikeouts to improve to 10-2 on the season with a team-leading 0.91 ERA.
Reiss, a four-year starter from Papillion-La Vista (Neb.) High, finished the game 3-for-4 to raise her team-best average to .419 as she collected a base-hit in her 12th straight game. German went 2-for-4 with a run scored to help key the victory.
Melissa Porche (7-8) was again on the losing end of an Oltman shutout. Porche went all nine, allowing two runs, three walks, nine hits and she fanned five for the defending MVC Tournament champion Bears.
The Bluejays return to Nebraska this week when they travel to Lincoln to play the in-state rival Huskers on Wednesday. CU and NU first pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Bowlin Stadium. The Jays will then open up a 10-game home stand starting with a doubleheader against South Dakota State on Thursday at 3 p.m.
