Women's Soccer Tops Northern Illinois, 4-1

OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton scored four goals in a 25-minute span during the second half to pick up a 4-1 win over Northern Illinois on Friday, Aug. 28, at Morrison Stadium.
After a scoreless opening half, Creighton (2-1-0) got goals by Alyssa Jara, Emma Braasch, Kaira Houser and Lauren Sullivan to earn the win. Northern Illinois fell to 1-2-0 with the setback.
The first score came off the right foot of Alyssa Jara in the 58th minute. She collected a deflection near the top of the box and beat keeper Amy Annala for her first score of the fall.
Just more than six minutes later, Creighton doubled its lead to 2-0. Emily Roll delivered a corner kick into the box and freshman Emma Braasch volleyed the service into the back of the net for her first career score.
Ten minutes later in the 74th minute, Kaira Houser scored her first goal. Hauser collected the ball on the right side of the box, dribbled across the face and past three defenders before beating reserve goalkeeper Mackenzie Lee for a 3-0 lead.
The final score for the hosts came in the 82nd minute, and came off the foot of Lauren Sullivan. She took a pass from senior Kirstyn Corder, dribbled down the right sideline, cut back inside and found the side netting to make it 4-0 with her first goal of 2015.
The Huskies' lone score came in the 87th minute, as Mackenzie Lewis beat Creighton's Kyla Salazar to avoid the shutout.
"Where we got better tonight was that we won the ball, then we got after [Northern Illinois] to convert on offense," said head coach Ross Paule.
Creighton outshot NIU 22-13 on the day, including a 13-8 edge on goal. The Bluejays also had seven of the game's nine corner kicks. CU's four goals after halftime were its most in one half since a five-goal outburst vs. North Dakota on Aug. 30, 2013.
Creighton returns to action on Sunday at 1 pm when it hosts Central Michigan.
