Villanova, Pa. -- The Creighton women's soccer team suffered a 3-1 defeat at Villanova on Sunday, Oct. 2.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 6-3-2 on the season and 1-2-0 in BIG EAST play, while Villanova moved to 3-8-0 overall and 1-1-0 in conference action.
Creighton fell behind 2-0 in a short window of the opening half as the Wildcats scored in the 22nd and 29th minutes. Sam Depinho collected a shot saved by Bluejay goalkeeper McKenzie Meola for the first goal from five yards out in the 22nd minute. A few moments later Kristin Barbour blasted a goal from 25 yards away to make it 2-0.
Villanova held its 2-0 edge through halftime, but senior Lauren Sullivan got the Bluejays on the board in the 58th minute. After receiving a header from freshman Caeley Lordemann, Sullivan bounced a shot off the Wildcats keeper then collected her own miss for her ninth goal of the season.
It was the sixth consecutive match that Sullivan has scored at least one goal, but Villanova answered in the 60th minute to reclaim control. The Wildcats went on for the 3-1 win.
The Bluejays return to their home pitch for a matchup with Seton Hall on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 7:00 pm. The contest will be the Bluejays Pink Game in support of Breast Cancer Awareness.
