Tebrake Delivers Seven Shutout Frames in the Win
Omaha, Neb. --Â Early offense and Dylan Tebrake provided a lethal combination as Creighton Baseball bested Seton Hall 8-1 on Friday, April 22.
The win lifted the Bluejays to 22-10 on the season and a program best 7-0 start to BIG EAST action, while Seton Hall fell to 10-27 overall and 2-5 in conference play.
The contest turned in the first inning as Tebrake worked his way out of a jam, while the Bluejays offense took advantage of their opportunity.
With one down and Pirates on second and third in the top of the first inning, Tebrake got Seton Hall cleanup hitter Steve Grober on strikes for the second out. Moments later Creighton third baseman Kyle Hess made a sparkling play on a slow roller to third to get the Bluejay out of the frame clean.
At the dish in the bottom half of the inning, Hess reached on a one-out single through the right side and junior Jared Wegner pulled a two-out single through the left side to put Bluejays at first and second. Junior Jack Grace laced a two-run single inside the left field line to give Creighton a 2-0 edge.
The Bluejays tacked on a single run in the second and three in the third to take control at 6-0.
Creighton's second-inning tally came on a one-out walk to sophomore Nolan Clifford, freshman Hogan Helligso was hit by a pitch and Hess delivered a two-out RBI single to center.
The three run third saw Grace hit by a pitch, freshman Nolan Sailors work a walk, then sophomore Brant Voth reached on an error that also plated Grace. Clifford and Helligso followed with RBI singles to push the Bluejay advantage to 6-0.
With the lead in hand, Tebrake retired 13 of the next 15 Seton Hall hitters to take the game into the sixth inning. Creighton's ace went on to pick up the win (6-1), allowing just three hits and a walk in seven innings.
Seton Hall starter Hunter Waldis took the loss (1-7), allowing six runs (five earned) on four hits and two walks in 2.1 innings.
Creighton's final two runs of the contest came in the seventh on a two-run double from junior Andrew Meggs, while Seton Hall scored a run in the eighth off Bluejay reliever Marc Lidd
