Bluejay Baseball Drops 10-9 Finale to Seton Hall

The loss moved Creighton to 23-11 on the season and 8-1 in conference action, while Seton Hall climbed to 11-28 overall and 3-6 in BIG EAST play.
Trailing 2-0 entering the bottom of the fifth, the Bluejays plated five runs on three hits and an error to take a 5-2 edge. Junior Jared Wegner opened the frame by getting hit by a pitch. Junior Jack Grace followed by reaching on a an error. A wild pitch put the Bluejay runners on second and third, then a walk to freshman Nolan Sailors and sophomore Nolan Clifford was hit by a pitch to make it 2-1. One out later an RBI single up the middle from freshman Hogan Helligso knotted the game at 2-2. Junior Andrew Meggs followed with an RBI single and sophomore Kyle Hess laced a two-run single to right center to make it 5-2.
The Pirates responded with three runs in the third to tie the game at 5-5, where it remained until the bottom of the sixth.
Creighton reclaimed the in the sixth as Meggs lined an RBI single to left.
The top of the seventh saw Seton Hall edge in front with a pair of runs on a solo home run by Steve Haberman and an RBI triple by Jack Wentworth.
The Bluejays responded immediately in the bottom of the seventh with one-out walks to Wegner and Grace, followed by an RBI single by Sailors and a sacrifice fly by sophomore Jack Peluso to put the Bluejays up 8-7.
The back-and-forth continued as the Pirated plated two runs in the top of the eighth, getting an RBI double from Haberman and scoring the second run via a wild pitch.
The Bluejays countered in the eighth with a run on walks to Meggs and Hess, then an RBI double from sophomore Alan Roden. A turning point in game came on Roden's double as Hess was cut down at the plate for the first out of the inning.
Seton Hall took advantage with a run int the ninth, getting a leadoff double from Jonathan Luders and a two-out RBI walk from Haberman.
Creighton reliever Daniel Hammond took the loss (0-2), allowing one run on one hit and one walk in one inning. Seton Hall reliever Drew Conover earned the win (2-2) with two innings of scoreless relief.
Roden led the Bluejay offense with three hits (3-for-5) and an RBI, while Meggs delivered a pair of hits (2-for-5) with two RBI.
Creighton returns to the diamond on Friday, April 29 at 2:00 pm in a road contest against Xavier in Cincinnati, Ohio.
