Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton Baseball dropped a 4-1 decision to the Omaha Mavericks on Tuesday, April 4.
The loss moved the Bluejays to 12-10 on the season, while the Mavericks climbed to 11-11.
Bluejay starter Cade Lommel took the loss (0-5), allowing four runs on three hits in one-third of an inning, while Maverick starter Charlie Bell earned the win (2-2). Bell limited Creighton to one run on five hits over 6.2 innings. Rans Sanders picked up his fourth save of the season with two scoreless frames.
After Lommel retired the first Maverick hitter, Omaha pounced on the Bluejay hurler with a walk, a single and a three-run home run from Noah Greise. The following hitter, Devin Hurdle, went back-to-back to chase Lommel and put Omaha ahead 4-0.
Bluejay reliever Justin Kleinsorge was brilliant out of the bullpen, limiting the Mavericks to just two hits in 5.2 innings with nine strikeouts.
Creighton's best chance came in the seventh as senior Jack Grace, sophomore Hogan Helligso and junior Kyle Hess strung three consecutive hits together. Grace and Helligso stroked singles, then Hess pulled an RBI double to right to make it 4-1.
Maverick head coach Evan Porter went to the bullpen for southpaw Cooper Prososki to end the inning by getting Ben Gbur to pop out to short.
