Bluejays Earn 6-5 Win in Resumed Game (April 18), Fall 7-4 in Series Finale

The split moves Creighton to 23-19 on the season while Nebraska is 26-21 overall.

Game 1 (Creighton 6, Nebraska 5)
In a game suspended by lightning and rain in the bottom of the seventh inning on April 18 with the game tied at 4-4, the Huskers wasn't no time take the lead. The teams resumed the contest with the bases load and no outs. Nebraska's Gabe Swansen delivered a sacrifice fly to score Max Anderson from third and give the Huskers the lead.Â

The Bluejays with a pair of runs in the top half of the eighth on a pair of RBI doubles from Ben Gbur and Nolan Sailors to regain a 6-5 advantage.Â

Malakai Vetock would keep the Huskers at bay the remained of the game to secure his second win of the season. The Elkhorn product tossed three innings of one hit scoreless ball to pick up the victory while Shay Schanaman suffered the loss after allowing two runs in the eighth inning.Â

Creighton managed nine hits in the contest, including two each from Andrew Meggs, Nolan Clifford, Sterling Hays and Gbur.Â

Game 2 (Nebraska 7, Creighton 4)
In game two, Nebraska used five runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to claim a come-from-behind 7-4 victory over the Bluejays. Â

Nebraska struck first in the top of the first as Brice Matthews blasted his 19th home run of the season to leadoff the game. Creighton answered right back with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame on an RBI double to left center by Hayes and an RBI single back up the middle by Tyler Lozano to give the Bluejays its first lead of the game.Â

The Huskers would then pull even in the top of the second as Matthews rocketed an RBI single off the pitcher, scoring Griffen Everitt from third to tie the game at 2-2.

The Bluejays would respond in the bottom half of the second inning as sophomore Hogan Helligso crushed his second home run of the season into the left field bullpen to regain a 3-2 lead for the Bluejays.Â

Nebraska, however, pushed across a run in the top of the fifth and three runs in the top of the sixth to jump out in front 6-3.Â

Creighton got a run back in the bottom half of the sixth as the Bluejays loaded the bases on a single by Clifford and back-to-back walks by Helligso and Gbur. Sailor was then hit by a pitch, cutting the deficit down to 6-4, before the Huskers pushed their advantage back out to three on an RBI double into the left center field gap by Ben Columbus.Â

Nebraska would keep the Bluejays off the scoreboard the rest of the way to secure the victory.Â

Lozano led Creighton's 10-hit offense with a trio of hits, while Hays and Helligso each recorded a pair of base knocks. Senior reliever Paul Bergstrom suffered the loss after allowing two runs, one earned, in 0.2 innings of work.Â
The Bluejays are back in action this weekend when they travel to New Jersey to take on Seton Hall in a pivotal BIG EAST series.Â
