Bluejays not Blue Jays
Creighton's mascot is the Bluejays or Bluejay, one word. Conversely the MLB Toronto team is the Blue Jays.
Scouting Creighton
Creighton returns six regular starters from last season's 36-22 squad that posted the programs first 35-win season since 2010 and finished runner-up in both the BIG EAST regular-season and tournament. The Bluejays were picked to finish fourth in the BIG EAST by the league coaches in 2025.
The Bluejays return two All-BIG EAST selections from a year ago, a group led by first team selection Ella Dalton, second team selection Sydra Seville and 2024 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year Ashten Pierson.
Seville led Creighton's offense with a team-best .367 batting average on 33 hits, while Dalton owned a .315 batting average with 45 hits, including eight doubles, a team-high two triples, two home runs and 27 RBI last spring.
Pierson, one of only four Bluejays to start all 58 games last season, will anchor the Creighton defense up the middle after leading the league with a perfect 1.000 percent fielding percentage on 38 putouts, contributing 48 assists and participated in five double plays during league action a season ago.
Also back are key contributors Lily West (.326 BA, 60 Hits, 26 RBI), Sydney Potter (.242 BA, 9 2B, 9 HR, 33 RBI) and Erika Perez (.224 BA, 13 BB), while Creighton picked up transfers Ashley Smetter (Nebraska), Hannah Poole (Furman) and Avery Barnard (Wichita State) in addition to adding six freshmen.
In the circle, the Bluejays return Kenzie Schopfer, Brooklyn Patchen and Brooke Shifflett to anchor the rotation. Schopfer looks to build upon her six-win, 64 strikeout and 4.00 ERA season from a year ago, while Patchen will be challenged to be a key contributor this season, after recording 27 strikeouts in 30.1 innings of work during her first year with the Bluejays in 2024.
Head coach Krista Wood is in her third season with the Bluejays and holds a 566-371 career record, including a 58-52 mark at Creighton.
Scouting Purdue Fort Wayne
Purdue Fort Wayne went 14-33 last season, finishing in seventh place in the Horizon League with a 9-15 mark.
First Team All-Horizon League performers Grace Hollopeter and Aglala Rudd, the 2024 Freshman of the Year, lead Purdue Fort Wayne's returning nucleus, as does outfielder Bailey Manos.
Hollopeter led the team with a .357 batting average, 55 hits, 11 home runs and 36 RBI last season, while Rudd hit at a .341 clip with 44 hits, including 14 doubles and 27 RBI. Manos added in 55 hits of her own and posted a .331 batting average on a a team-high 16 multi-hit games.
In the circle the Mastadon's return Second Team All-League pitcher Alanah Jones and senior Gracie Brinkerhoff. Jones recorded eight victories while striking out a team-high 152 batters and posting a 3.18 for PFW in 2024. Brinkerhoff added in 105.1 innings of solid work, retiring 45 batters via strikeout and recording a 4.85 ERA.
Head coach Amber Bowman is in her fourth season at the helm of Purdue Fort Wayne and holds a 38-107 record as the head coach of the Mastadon's.
Series History Against The Mastadon's
Creighton leads the all-time series against Purdue Fort Wayne, 3-0, winning 11-1 in 2004, 5-1 in 2006 and 14-1 in 2020, with all three previous meetings taking place at neutral sites.
The Bluejays have won all three contests by a score of 30-3 and have not allowed more than one run in either of the three all-time meetings.
Head Coach Krista Wood is an impressive 16-1 in her career against Purdue Fort Wayne, having won all 16 contests while serving as the head coach at South Dakota State.
Scouting Coastal Carolina
Coastal Carolina went 34-21 last season, including a 14-10 mark in the Sun Belt and an impressive 26-9 mark inside the friendly confines of St. John Stadium.
The Chanticleers return four women who hit over .250 from a season ago, led by 2024 All-Sun Belt First Team and NFCA All-Region Second Team selection Georgia Hood and 2025 Preseason All-Sun Belt honoree Delaney Keith.
Hood topped the team in batting average (.402), slugging percentage (.750), and on-base percentage (.521), while also smashing nine home runs and driving in 31 RBI last season. Keith also made her mark in the Sun Belt rankings, placing fourth in runs (46), tied for sixth in doubles (13), and tied for sixth in stolen bases (17), while leading her team with 11 home runs and 14 multi-hit games in 2024.
In the circle the Chanticleers are forced to replace star pitch Raelee Brabham but will look for Nicolette Picone to take a step forward as she returns to anchor the Coastal Carolina pitching staff.
Picone recorded seven wins a season ago, while recording a 3.04 ERA with 69 strikeouts in 103.2 innings of work. In addition, the Chanticleers hope to get key contribution from sophomores Kate Ryan and Abby Henderson this season.
Coastal Carolina was picked to finish sixth in the Sun Belt Preseason Coaches' Poll, as head coach Kelly Green enters her 16th season at the helm of Chanticleers with a 470-341 overall record.
Series History Against The Chanticleers

Over the last 24 seasons, Creighton is 375-54 when scoring five or more runs. In the same time span Creighton is 241-410-3 when scoring four runs or fever.

Seville Opens Season on 15 Game Hitting Streak
Sydra Seville enters her season senior as one of the hottest hitters in the BIG EAST after finishing last season on a 15-game hitting streak.
The New Lenox, Ill. native hit a blistering .500 (23-of-46) with 23 hits, six RBI, nine runs scored and three stolen bases over the final 15-games in 2024, helping earn herself Second Team All-BIG EAST honors and a spot on the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team.
Seville's 15-game hitting streak is the Bluejays longest hitting streak since Renae Sinkler recorded a hit in 17 straight games during the 2008 season.
In addition to recording a hit in 15 consecutive games, Seville has reached base in 15 straight contests, the longest active straight since Cayla Nielsen reached base safely in 19 consecutive games in 2023.

Her 111 consecutive starts are the longest starting streak since Madeline Vejvoda started 174 consecutive games from 2020- 2024.
West Hitting Way Into Top-10
Entering her junior season with the Bluejays, Lily West looks to continue her climb up the Bluejay ranks in career batting average.
West currently ranks tied for eighth all-time with a .331 career batting average. The Choctaw, Okla. native ended her sophomore season with 118 career hits, a total that ranks second-most for a career through two seasons in program history.

Tough Sledding
Creighton has never shied away from playing a tough schedule, and that is no different in 2025. The Bluejays will play five different teams that made the 2024 NCAA Tournament, as well as Preseason Top-25 ranked Nebraska on April 9.
Coaching is Key
After leading the Bluejays to a 36-win season, its first 35-win season since 2010, and a runner-up finish in both the BIG EAST regular-season and tournament, the Creighton Softball coaching staff was named the BIG EAST Co-Coaching Staff of the Year.
In just two seasons as the Creighton head coach, Krista Wood has engineered one of the nation's greatest turnarounds, improving the Bluejays by 21 wins over the past two years.
She has coached five first team and two second team All-BIG EAST picks, while also recruiting and coaching the 2024 BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year (Natalia Puchino) and the 2024 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year (Ashten Pierson). In addition, Wood has also coached four NFCA All-Great Lakes Region, seven College Sports Communicators Academic All-District and 27 NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete members during her first two seasons.

Furnal comes to Creighton after spending the previous three seasons as an assistant coach at Northern Iowa, during which time the Panthers went 104-42 overall and won a pair of Missouri Valley Conference regular-season titles after compiling a 66-9 record in league play.
Serving as the Panthers outfield and hitting coach, Furnal was part of UNI's 2022 and 2023 MVC Coaching Staff of the Year who helped develop nine NFCA All-Region and 18 All-MVC selections, including two MVC Players of the Year and two MVC Freshmen of the Year selections.
Under Furnal's guidance, UNI rewrote the Panthers record book, setting seven single-season team records, including batting average (.323), slugging percentage (.572), on-base percentage (.420), runs scored (348), doubles (97), home runs (73) and stolen bases (90). In addition, the Panthers led the MVC in batting average, runs, walks, total bases and hits, while established new MVC records with 97 doubles and 330 RBI in 2023.
Furnal's hitters also led the MVC in home runs, slugging percentage, and OPS each of the last three years, while ranking in the top-10 nationally in doubles per game (1st), OPS (2nd), total doubles (4th), slugging percentage (4th), scoring (5th), on-base percentage (6th) and home runs per game (7th) in 2023.
Furnal joined the UNI coaching staff after spending three seasons at Ohio University two years at UNC Wilmington, two years at Presbyterian College and one year at the University of Monroe.
Vejvoda joins Wood's staff as a graduate assistant after spending the previous five seasons (2020-2024) in a Bluejay uniform, where she made 184 starts and appeared in 197 games. The La Vista, Neb. native posted a .293 career batting average, collecting 162 hits, 29 doubles, three triples, six home runs and 79 RBI while scoring a total of 100 runs.
Vejvoda, a 2024 unanimous All-BIG EAST First Team and NFCA All-Great Lakes Region Second Team second baseman, guided the Bluejays to its first 35-win since 2010 while leading the team with 32 runs scored and a .404 on-base percentage as a senior. She also ranked second on the team in batting average (.353), hits, (61), doubles (12) and walks (17), while recording a team-high six of the Bluejays new school record 20 sacrifice flies in 2024.
