The Bluejays improved to 7-2 on the year with its fifth straight win.
In game one, the Jays scored early and often with eight runs in the first three inning. Creighton produced a run in the first before exploding for six runs in the second and another run in the third.
Junior Brittney Manthie crossed the plate for the Jays in the top of the first after leading off the game with a six-pitch walk. Manthie advanced to second on a wild pitch before moving to third on a groundout by Cayla Nielsen. Junior Kailey Wilson then grounded out to second but was able to push Manthie across for the Jays first run of the game.
Ohio responded with three runs in the bottom half of the first on back-to-back home runs to grab their first lead of the game. Annal Paoli hit a 2-run home run over the center field wall before Caitl Fogue launched the very next pitch over the right field wall to take a 3-1 lead.
Creighton answered with six runs in the second on four hits including a three-run home run by Emma Rosonke. Kiara Mills singled through the right side to lead off the inning. An error by the Bobcats second baseman helped Alyssa Gappa reach base and advance Mills to second. Rosonke then launched her third home run of the season to give Creighton the lead once again.
The Bluejays were not done there as Shayna Dahlen singled and Madeline Vejvoda reached on another Bobcat error. With runners on first and second, Nielsen ripped a liner into the right center field gap for a two-run triple before scoring herself on a sacrifice fly by Wilson.
The Bobcats once again answered with three more of their own in the bottom half of the third on a trio of hits but continued to trail 7-6.
Creighton tacked on a run in the third as Rosonke, Dahlen and Vejvoda all singled to push Creighton's lead out to 8-6.
Scoring remained quiet until a pair of wild pitches by the Bluejays allowed Ohio to score two and even the game up at 8-8 in the fourth.
Creighton capped off the first game of the day with a solo run in the top of the sixth. Manthie drew her second walk of the contest to lead off the inning, while Nielsen singled down the left field line to advance Manthie to second. Following a fielder's choice by Wilson, junior Sam Alm cracked her team-leading third sacrifice fly of the season, allowing Manthie to score from third.
Mikayla Santa Cruz finished off the contest in the circle with six straight outs, five groundouts and a strikeout, to give Creighton the 9-8 win.
Four Bluejays recorded two hits, while Rosonke led the Jays with three RBI.
In game two, sophomore Jena Lawrence tossed her first complete game of the season while striking out five and allowing just three hits and two earned runs.
Vejvoda went 2-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored while Mills and Wilson each recorded an RBI.
New Mexico claimed the early 1-0 lead on a pair of singles and a sac fly in the top half of the second inning.
The Jays grabbed their first lead of the game in the third and did not look back. Rosonke led off the inning was an eight-pitch walk before a sac bunt by Dahlen advanced Josey Marquette over to second. Vejvoda drove Maquette in with a single through the right side to tie it up at 1-1. Manthie followed with a single of her own before Nielsen moved Vejvoda and Manthie over with a groundout. Wilson pushed Vejvoda across the plate with an RBI single to push the Jays out in front 2-1.
Creighton tacked on a run in the fourth and another two runs in the fifth. Gappa scored on an error by the Bobcats shortstop in the fifth, while Nielsen and Megan Miklesh scored on a wild pitch and another error by the Lobos in the fifth.
New Mexico plated one in the bottom half of the sixth on a solo home run by Briana Martinez but went down empty in the seventh as the Jays captured the 5-2 win.
Creighton returns to the field tomorrow morning when they meet Lamar at 11:30 a.m. at the LU Softball Complex.
