Bluejays Downed by Coastal Carolina, 14-5

The loss moved the Bluejays to 2-3 on the season, while Coastal Carolina climbed to 4-2.
Creighton got on the scoreboard in the top of the third with three runs on four hits. Junior Colby Canales opened the frame with a double down the left field line. One out later senior Andrew Meggs doubled down the right field line. Canales advanced to third as he was forced to hold due to a diving attempt on the ball by Coastal Carolina outfielder Graham Brown. Sophomore Nolan Sailors followed with a two-run double into the right field corner to make it 2-0. Grad transfer Tyler Lozano pushed the Bluejay lead to 3-0 with an RBI single to right-center.
Lozano extended Creighton's advantage to 5-1 in the top of the fifth with a momentous blast over the 20-foot wall in center, his first as a Bluejay.
Coastal Carolina, however, got to Creighton starter Justin Kleinsorge in the fifth with a single, double, walk and a two-run double to make it 5-3. Reliever Cade Lommel retired two on strikes, but hit two batters to bring Creighton closer Tommy Steier. The Bluejay leader was not at his best on Saturday, allowing five runs.
Overall the Chanticleers scored five runs in the fifth to take a 6-5 lead, then plated five more in the sixth to build an 11-5 edge. Coastal tacked on three more runs in the eighth for the final score of 14-5.
Lommel took the loss (0-1), allowing the lead run in the fifth inning. Coastal Carolina reliever Bryce Shaffer picked up the win (1-0) with 2.2 innings of scoreless relief.
Offensively the Bluejays got three hits from Lozano (3-for-5) and two from Sailors (2-for-5) as well as senior Sterling Hayes (2-for-2)
Creighton and Coastal Carolina will conclude the series on Sunday, February 26 at 11:30 a.m.
