Softball Sweeps DePaul on the Road in Friday Twin Bill

Bluejays earn 3-2 come-from-behind win in game one and 14-3 run-rule victory in game two
CHICAGO, Ill. – The Creighton softball team swept DePaul in a Friday doubleheader with a 3-2 come-from-behind win in game one before cruising to a 14-3 run-rule victory in game two at Cacciatore Stadium in Chicago, Ill.
The Bluejays moved their season record to 3-8 in BIG EAST play and 16-21 on the year, while DePaul mover to 11-20 overall and 3-8 in league play.
Creighton trailed 2-1 heading into the top of the seventh inning in the first game of the day, before the Bluejays scored two runs with two outs to secure the come-from-behind victory.
Senior Saren Croker got the Bluejays started with a single deep into the right center field gap to open the inning. Pinch run Megan Miklesh would then advance to second on a sacrifice bunt by Emma Rosonke before a single from pinch hitter Erika Perez places runs on first and second with one out. Following a groundout that moved the runs up to second and third, junior Cayla Nielsen delivered a two-out two-run single into left center too give Creighton its first lead of the game at 3-2.
Freshman pitcher Natalia Puchino closed things out from there, recording her season-high 10th strikeout to secure the Bluejays come-from-behind victory.
DePaul take control scoring runs in the bottom of the first and third inning during the first game of the doubleheader.
The Blue Demons used a leadoff double by Anna Wohlers and a sacrifice fly from Brooke Johnson to take a 1-0 lead after the first inning. DePaul added to its lead with a run in the third as Wohlers reach on an Bluejay error before back-to-back singles by Addison Talbot and Johnson gave the Blue Demons a 2-0 advantage.
The score would remain 2-0 until the Bluejays scored their first run of the game in the sixth inning. Nielsen lined a single back up the middle to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a sac bunt by freshman Lily West before scoring on an RBI single from Alyssa Gappa.
Nielsen and West led the Bluejays offense with a pair of hits each, while Gappa and Rosonke each collected one hit apiece. Puchino improved to 9-9 on the season, striking out a season-high 10 batters in the win.
Creighton picked up right where they left off in game one, soaring out to an 8-0 lead after three innings.
The Bluejays jumped on the scoreboard in the first as Nielsen drew a four-pitch walk to open the game and came around to score on a single to left by Gappa which gave Creighton a 1-0 lead.
The advantage grew to 5-0 in the second when the Bluejays scored four runs on just one hit but two Blue Demon errors. Sophomore Sydra Seville got things started with a walk before Nielsen reached on a DePaul fielding error. Another fielding error by the Blue Demons allowed two runs to score before a two-run home run by Wilson pushed the advantage out to 5-0. The home run was Wilson's 150th career hit as a Bluejays and her team-leading eighth home run of the season.
Creighton added three additional runs in the third on a trio of hits, including an RBI single from freshman Ensley Frame and a two-run single from Nielsen to extend the lead out to 8-0.
DePaul answered with a single run in each of the third and fourth innings to cut into the early deficit. A sacrifice fly to left by Talbot scored the Blue Demons first run of the game, while a solo home run by Baylee Cosgrove trimmed the Bluejays lead down to 8-2.
Creighton pushed the advantage back out to eight on an RBI single by Frame and an RBI fielder's choice by West in the top of the fifth before another solo home run by Wohlers sent the contest to the sixth with the Bluejays leading 10-3.

Gappa, Croker and Ella Dalton each recorded singles to load the bases before Frame drew a walk to make the score 11-3. Perez then delivered a two-run single to left to make the score 13-3 before an RBI single from Nielsen secured the Bluejays 14-3 run-rule victory.
Ten different Bluejays collected a hit in game two as the Bluejays racked up 14 total hits, the second most hits in a game this season. Nielsen, Gappa, Croker and Frame each recorded a pair of hits, while Nielsen, West and Frame each drove in three runs for the Bluejays.
Junior Payton Akers recorded her fifth win of the season after allowing just three runs on five hits with three strikeouts in 4.1 innings of work.
Creighton and DePaul will wrap up their three-game series on Saturday at noon.
