Scouting Nebraska (2025: 24-24, 11-13 B10)
Fresh off a series victory against the Minnesota Gophers, the Huskers aim to collect the series from Creighton for the first time since 2016.
Late game heroics helped the Huskers close out the series, as Nebraska rattled off seven runs combined over the seventh and eighth innings to claim an 8-3 victory.
A solo home run for Dylan Carey (.294), his seventh over 48 games, got Nebraska on the board in the sixth inning before two-hit performances from Robby Bolin, Cayden Brumnbaugh and others helped add to the lead in the closing innings. The closing duo of Drew Christo and Luke Broderick, who pitched scoreless eighth and ninth innings, shut the door on the Gophers to secure the series victory.
Brumbaugh (.317), Bolin (.311) and Devin Nunez (.309) have anchored the Husker offense this season. The three combine for 50 RBI this season.
On the mound, the Huskers boast performances from three main pitchers: Jackson Brockett (3.99 ERA in 47.1 innings pitched), Will Walsh (5.37 ERA in 60.1 innings) and Ty Horn (6.28 ERA in 57.1 innings). Horn leads the team in strikeouts, with 57 in 57.1 innings.
Scouting the Bluejays (2025: 31-13, 12-3 BIG EAST)
A mid-week, non-conference 11-5Â loss to crosstown rival Omaha ended the Bluejays' eight game win streak before Creighton returned to its winning ways in dominant fashion with a series sweep over Butler.
Double digit scoring in all three games saw the Bluejays score 41 runs at Butler, pushing Creighton's season average to .280.
In the final game against Butler, Creighton saw its leading offensive threats step up to the plate once again to secure the series. Connor Capece (.359) went 4-for-6 with four RBI. Nolan Sailors (.409), Creighton's offensive leader, also added fuel to the fire, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Bluejay starter Wilson Magers also had himself a day on the mound against Butler on Sunday, racking up the win (5-2) while limiting Butler to three runs on six hits and one walk in five
innings. This season, Magers has recorded a 3.44 ERA to go with 55 innings pitched and 41 strikeouts.
Heading into the mid-week battle with Nebraska, the Bluejay bullpen holds a 3.98 ERA this season compared to opponents' 6.64 average ERA.
With the three wins on the road in Indianapolis, Creighton improved their road record to 15-8 this season.
Having split the non-conference series with Nebraska 1-1 over the course of the season, the contest between the Bluejays and Huskers will serve as a winner-takes-all conclusion at Hawks Field.
Bluejays Set Program Record with 10 Stolen Bases at Butler
Creighton's series against Butler wasn't just a hitting clinic. The Bluejays also secured their single game stolen base record in their first outing with the Bulldogs on May 2.
The previous record for most stolen bases in a single game was nine, set against Oral Roberts 30 years ago, on Feb. 26, 1995.
The long-standing record by the Bluejays squad of 1995 was finally surpassed on Friday with help from three swiped bases each from Tate Gillen and Ben North. The other four came thanks to clever baserunning from Teddy Deters (1), Nolan Sailors (2) and Matt Scherrman (1).
Fuchino Displays Power with First Blast
In the fourth at-bat of his college career, sophomore catcher Cooper Fuchino recorded his first hit on a home run in the series conclusion against the Butler Bulldogs on May 4. It was the second time this season a Bluejay has delivered a pinch-hit blast, joining Jack Torosian.
Fuchino's two-run homer came in the ninth inning of the final game of the series, helping close out Creighton's series sweep against the Bulldogs.
Scherrman Goes Yard in Consecutive At-Bat Against Butler
Graduate Matt Scherrman had his fingerprints all over the Bluejays 13-1 victory over Butler in the second game of the series, recording personal bests and leading the Bluejay offense with a dominant day at the plate.
The Illinois native's action-packed afternoon began in the fifth inning, opening Creighton's scoring account with a solo home run to help give Creighton the early advantage.
Scherrman would again light up the plate in his next at-bat in the sixth inning, blasting a three-run home run to give Creighton a 5-1 edge. Â
An RBI double in the seventh inning and another in the eighth would help solidify not only the Bluejay victory, but two personal bests for Scherrman. At the game's conclusion, Scherrman went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and recorded six RBI.
Scherrman's performance in the second game of the Butler series helped him achieve career statistics. It was the first time that Scherrman recorded two home runs in one game, and his six RBI served as a career-best for the Illinois native in his time at Creighton.
Hess Enters Game at Nebraska Having Reached Base 13 Straight Times
Kyle Hess heads to Lincoln having reached in 13 consecutive plate appearances. The Bluejay second baseman was hit twice in the eighth inning on Friday at Butler, went a combined 4-for-4 with five walks and two hit-by-pitches over the final two games with the Bulldogs.
Capece Tamed Bulldog Pitching
Sophomore catcher Connor Capece closed the three-game sweep of Butler hitting .500 (7-for-14) with seven RBI. He heads into Nebraska with a season-high .359 average and has a nine-game hitting streak.
