Senior Jordan Hovey ripped an RBI single up the middle, taking second on the throw to the plate. Then freshman Jared Wegner blooped an RBI double down the left field line to make it 4-0. The following three Bluejay hitters reached on three consecutive Redbird errors, then Upton capped the frame with an RBI single giving the Bluejays an 8-0 advantage.
Illinois State got on the board with a run in the fourth, but Creighton responded with three runs of their own. The Bluejay damage came as Upton led off the inning with a single to right, Robertson followed with another single to right, then Jake Holton launched a three-run homer to right-center to make it 11-1.
